On our way to Fiordland

We have left Bluff this morning at about 5am.  Pitch dark morning, but we managed to find our way out the harbour and are now plodding along into a short steepish swell.  South west wind of about 20 k nots.A grey overcast day and very cold.  Probably pretty good conditions for Fouveaux Strait but not the best for trying to type anything...  Anyway its supposed to ease off to 10 knots later this afternoon so that should we good for rounding Puysegur Point and going into Preservation Inlet which is the first of the sounds at the bottom of Fiordland.

We can seee the western side of Stewartn Island off to our port and Centre Island and Te Waewae Bay to starboard.

As we will soon be out of internet coverage it is time to say cheerio for a month or so or whenever we get back to civilisation again.

Bye for now

Hi there Kate and Pete. Thanks for the interesting blog posts. I'm an architecture student doing a project for my thesis on Puysegur point, but like most kiwis, I have never been there. I was wondering if one of you would be able to contact me or send me some photos of that area from your trip. I was also really impressed by your photo of old rusting machinery, with windblown trees clinging to it in preservation inlet, it capture's a lot of the power of nature and it's interactions with architecture (a major theme of my thesis). My email is stho222backup@gmail.com.
